In this sequel to "National Lampoon's Van Wilder," Taj (Van Wilder's assistant in the first film), heads out on his own to England's prestigious Camden University to further his studies. Along the way, he shows the uptight student body how to get Wilder.
The absurdly named Taj Mahal Badalandabad, played by the Indian-American actor Kal Penn, was Ryan Reynolds's right-hand man in the original "Wilder." Here he leaves Coolidge College behind to take up studies in the UK. Tricked out of joining a fraternal society of WASPs, Taj soon shacks up with a group of misfits, including Sadie (Holly Davidson). A mutual attraction develops between Taj and Charlotte, an uptight scholar played by newcomer Lauren Cohan. But she is romantically linked to Pipp Everett (Daniel Percival), the ringleader of the rival fraternity.
There's a campus-wide contest for a trophy, a contest involving athletic, mental and beer drinking skills. Taj resolves to make the kids winners by taking that cup. And if he can snatch Charlotte from the prickly, “blue-blooded snot" Pip in the process, so much the better.
Van Wilder 2 has a lot of British, American and Anglo-Indian slang. However, the movie ends up as a booze and sex romp without any real jokes or good production quality. It is, however, hoping to find 20-something audiences looking for some cheap laughs. Kal Penn isn’t as good as he was in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. Overall, it is a film that does not promise much. |
